In 2nd Millennium BCE, Tiamat was set loose by an alien race to destroy Earth and end the conflict between Chaos and Order. Tiamat was seemingly impervious to damage and the world was on the brink of destruction. The gods issued a summons for a hero to save the world. Marduk, a young demi-god from Mesopotamia, answered the call. Marduk "petitioned the four winds" to create lightning and rain to defeat Tiamat. Marduk used the Tablet of Destiny and sacrificed his life to place Tiamat into a dormant state. After the battle, Marduk was inducted into the Babylonian pantheon posthumously and his name passed into legend as the "god of gods." Marduk was essentially an ancient superhero. The Esagila, a temple dedicated to Marduk, was built in the Middle East around the well where Tiamat was laid to rest.
The battle between Marduk and Tiamat passed into legend and was incorporated into the Chaoskampf myth, a story that represents the battle between chaos and order. In present times, the Light sought to awaken Tiamat. On February 17th, Team Year Five, Aquagirl learned the truth about Marduk's victory from information gathered from the research center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Watchtower database, and the historical records of the Guardians of the Universe. She emulated Marduk's sacrifice and gave her life to defeat Tiamat and return it back to a dormant state.
