Nana is mother to Trigon and Grim and grandmother to Raven, Russ, Lyle, and Suge. Trigon's looks are clearly inherited from her side of the family. She attended Raven's Sinister 16 birthday party in Azarath's suburbs. Nana was elated to see how much Raven had grown then asked Trigon, referring to him by his full name of "Trigontholomew," and asked about her Epsom salts. He admitted he forgot to buy some. She pointed out he could enslave an entire dimension but couldn't remember to buy Epsom salts for his mother. She presented one of her swollen feet. Russ, Lyle, and Suge happily kissed it. Starfire joined in. Nana scolded Grim after he reaped Robin. She told him to leave work at home. He restored Robin back to life. Trigon wanted to do the father-daughter dance but his dance moves were outdated. Nana remarked he had two left hooves and didn't get that from her. Cyborg asked her to dance. She thought he'd never ask. She tossed her cane then busted out some cool moves like The Worm. Grim reaped Robin after he tried to cut in on him dancing with Starfire.
Nana yanked Starfire and scolded Grim again, telling him to leave Robin alone. He growled and restored Robin back to life again. Raven's present from Nana and Trigon was a blanket they spent a millennium making. Raven hated it and shredded it to pieces. After Raven turned into an all-powerful spoiled monster, she roasted Grim, Nana, Russ, Lyle, and Suge with blue flame breath then later ate them but all was undone when Beast Boy reset the timeline with his magic Azarathian birthday cake wish.
Raven agreed to help out at the family business in Azarath for awhile. Inside the Azarath Metrion Bookstore, Nana was elated to see Raven and shoved Trigon aside and they greeted each other with their secret fist bump. Nana was happy to have her darling granddaughter and some young blood around. She pointed out all Trigon did was nap and snack in the store. He reminded her he was the dark lord of Azarath and could do what he wanted. She enlarged a Soul Puff as it entered his mouth. Trigon's mouth was stuffed and he fell off his couch. Trigon reminded everyone he was their absolute overlord and answered to no one. Nana cleared her throat. Trigon added his mother was the exception. Nana showed Raven, Cat, and Hank what needed to get stocked. She showed them the audiobooks which were animated books that talked, the mystery section that was cordoned off like a crime scene, and the DIY section. An animated book flushed a toilet and it exploded. Cat regurgitated a fire extinguisher and put out the fire.
Raven rested against a book titled "Secrets" and accidentally revealed a secret passage. Nana and Raven were eager to explore it. Nana was surprised to learn Trigon wrote his own autobiography years ago. Three ghosts from Trigon's past emerged from the book and threatened to destroy Azarath if they weren't trapped back in the book. The first ghost was a baby Trigon. Nana remembered he always went commando. Trigon was embarrassed. The last ghost, college Tyler attempted to transform Azarath into a peaceful world filled with liberal arts, jam bands, and patchouli oil. Nana fretted about becoming a liberal arts major and was changed into a hippie. She yelled out everyone to let their freak flag fly. Trigon tricked his college self and ate him then everything was restored back to normal.
Nana was surprised but happy to have top conjurer Margaret signing her latest spell book at the bookstore. Nana admitted she had a wall in her bedroom dedicated to Mar. Cat stated she saw it and it was super creepy. Mar was alarmed. Nana boasted they were a pretty magical group. Mar invited them to be contestants on their brand-new TV show, The Great Azarathian Face Off. The winner would be crowned Azarath's Next Top Conjurer. In the first round, Nana made a potion from dragon scales, a tentacle, and bottles of chunky salsa that turned a rat into a keyboard guitar. Margaret loved it and joined in with a cow bell. In the second round, Nana gave life to a doughnut and it danced to her music. Only Nana and Raven advanced to the final round. Grr claimed the final round would take all the energy they could muster, push them to their limits, and have them questioning the very fabric of space and time. The challenge was to bake a cake. Nana and Raven were surprised but Mar pointed out there was nothing more delicious than a cake.
Nana claimed she never baked a cake before then presented a chocolate lava cake with a mascarpone frosting and cocoa ganache. Mar declared her the winner but because Nana was officially Azarath's Next Top Conjurer, they would eat her. They grabbed Nana with their tail and explained they created the show to find and destroy Azarath's best talent so they could remain the top conjurer. Raven objected. Mar deferred to Grr and he swallowed Nana whole. Cat upchucked her living hairball Chuck into Grr's mouth. Grr couldn't hold back and spit Nana and Chuck out. He vowed they would regret that. Margaret leaped at them but only crushed Chuck. Nana fired a magic blast from her rat-turned-keyboard-guitar but Margaret deflected it with a magic shield. It hit Nana and she went flying. Margaret was ultimately crushed by Raven's giant Shortcake Robin.
After Raven finished checking out a customer, Nana dumped a shipment of her favorite books onto the counter. Raven soon realized she was into romance novels. Nana really enjoyed the covers and admitted she liked them swole. Trigon shelved books and was not fazed by their attempts to scare him. He claimed he wasn't afraid of anything. Nana disagreed and told the others about a book that scared Trigon in his youth called "The Bookyman." It was the story of a twisted fiend bound inside a book. Trigon continued to claim he wasn't afraid. Raven wanted him to prove it. He pointed out Nana destroyed the book long ago. Nana revealed she held onto it just in case she needed to keep him in line. Nana led them to the Children's section where she hid it. Trigon tried dissuade them but they continued on. Nana found the puzzle toy she hid the book in and tried to remember the right combination: 3-1-3-2-1-0-1. A green hand holding the book appeared. Trigon tried offering everyone ice cream. Hank noticed something on the back jacket. Cat believed it was an inscription. Nana was surprised and informed everyone Bookyman could be brought to life if his name was said three times in a row.
A cute blue monster rolled out of the book. It grabbed a copy of Little Red Riding Hood and ate it. It transformed into a scary version of the Big Bad Wolf. He chased after Trigon. Later into the chase, Raven got an idea and threw Nana's "Forbidden Flame" romance novel into Bookyman's mouth. He turned into hunk. Raven thought he was peaceful but Nana pointed out in the book, he was a ruthless warlord. Bookyman sliced the register in half. Nana pleaded with him not to hurt them. Bookyman was enamored with her and proposed marriage. Trigon was shocked and terrified. Just to scare Trigon some more, Hank pretended to be in love with Nana and proposed to her, too. Nana didn't know who to choose. Bookyman demanded a duel to the death. Cat regurgitated a sword for Hank. Hank to stabbed through by Bookyman. Hank hammed up his death scene and Nana knew it was an act. She accepted Bookyman's proposal. Trigon screamed. The wedding was held in the book store and Hank officiated. Cat presented the rings by hocking them out on a set of hairballs. Hank found her disgusting. Trigon cried tears of terror and called it the scariest day of his life. Hank pronounced them Nana and The Bookyman and they kissed, to Trigon's horror.
Trigon entered the bookstore declaring it was Bring Your Daughter To Work Day. Nana pointed out she was already at work and called him a numbskull. Trigon clarified he meant his real job as an intergalactic conqueror. He revealed one could take over a planet by buying it online and escorted Raven to his hidden office of despair. Nana tagged along because she wanted to take a break anyway and complained her feet were swollen. She and Raven were excited he owned Mammal Planet. Trigon hyped a recent acquisition called Acmetropolis, home to the most legendary cartoon characters in the universe. Nana perked up at the notion it was the Looney Tunes but her excitement tempered when Trigon explained he was talking about the Loonatics, descendants of the Looney Tunes who got superpowers from an asteroid and became extreme superheroes. Trigon believed he could make Acmetropolis even better and make it the number one entertainment destination.
Nana thought he was the lunatic for buying a junk planet. She warned him to leave the Loonatics alone or he would get them killed. He hurled another asteroid at the planet but it killed the Loonatics. She slapped him repeatedly. Trigon's efforts to replace the Loonatics with the other Teen Titans failed. Raven had an idea for another planet. She stranded Trigon on Mammal Planet and made it more popular than ever. Nana told Raven she was proud of her. Trigon stole Cat's tuna sandwich and Hank's seat on the couch on the premise that the store was in his domain. Raven objected and called out to Nana for help. Trigon became worried. Nana called him a fool and revealed there was one place no-one controlled. Trigon didn't believe her. Nana conjured a book and told them about the Public Domain. Trigon figured it must be light years away. Nana pointed out the door to the Public Domain was next to the door to the public restroom. Trigon admitted he never saw it before. Nana mused she could fill a room with what he didn't notice.
They went through and explored the Public Domain. They saw many books relaxing, playing, dancing, drinking, and otherwise having a good time. They were greeted by Winnie-The-Pooh. Book. They were delighted to meet Winnie. Nana saw her favorite book Pinocchio. Pinocchio stole Trigon's wristwatch but denied it and his nose kept growing longer and longer the more he did. He claimed it was for a limbo party. Raven, Cat, and Hank indulged him and performed the limbo. Trigon had enough but soon realized his magic didn't work since no on could control books in the Public Domain. Trigon was eager to leave but Raven pointed out they could do things without any repercussions, too. Trigon perked up and beat up the Pinocchio book. Nana was aghast but Pinocchio was happy to be pummeled like a real boy. They watched as the Hollywood Machine selected books like Treasure Island and Little Women. Winnie-The-Pooh Book was sad he wasn't chosen and guessed he didn't resonate with the modern audiences anymore but he was chosen next. However, he got stuck at the opening of the pipeline. They shoved him through but they got pulled in.
Winnie-The-Pooh Book, Nana, Trigon, Raven, Hank, and Cat were deposited into 100 Acre Wood by the Hollywood Machine. Winnie was elated to be back home. The others found themselves transformed into Winnie's friends. Trigon was Piglet, Hank was Eeyore, Nana was Rabbit, Cat was Kanga, and Raven was Owl. Nana realized Hollywood remade Winnie the Pooh into a horror movie. Christopher Robin chased after them with an axe. They were returned to the Public Domain by the Hollywood Machine and deposited into the ominous jungle. In order to stop the Hollywood Machine from warping the stories of any more books in the Public Domain, Nana had Trigon, Raven, Hank, Cat, and the Winnie-The-Pooh Book join hands and form a circle then think up an original idea for a movie or television series. Nana told everyone to think as hard as they could. There was a golden flash and an original idea was born. Winnie dunked the Original Idea. It worked and the Hollywood Machine didn't know what to do with it.
A chain reaction was set off. They retreated back to the Azarath Metrion Bookstore along with several books. Nana welcomed them to Azarath. Winnie-The-Pooh Book was glad to be at a place where he could be truly free. Trigon informed him they were in his domain now and took them into the restroom for some reading. Winnie proclaimed Azarath was a terrible place. Hank welcomed him to their nightmare.
