Blok is a gentle, introspective (completely contrasting his giant, intimidating appearance) being from the planet Korlon, home to native inhabitants with a mineral based physiology. Korlon was soon settled upon and renamed Dryad. Korlons boast great invulnerability and strength. During Blok's childhood, the population of Korlon was evacuated by six members of the Legion of Superheroes. The planet was ill-fated and soon exploded.
Dark Man, a clone of Tharok, misled the Korlons and made them believe the Legion was responsible. Dark Man granted power to the Korlons and called them the League of Super Assassins. Only Blok questioned Dark Man. Blok ultimately sided with the Legion of Superheroes and later joined their ranks. Since then, he has been best friends with Timber Wolf.
