In a parallel universe, Anti-Amazo was created on Earth like most versions of it. However, there were no heroes to offer it compassion. Humanity feared it and tried to destroy it. Anti-Amazo fought back with hatred and annihilated the planet. It went into space and destroyed planet after planet and star system after star system. Anti-Amazo eventually arrived at Apokolips. With no other hope, Darkfather unleashed the Anti-Life Equation. It failed and Anti-Amazo effortlessly absorbed it. The Equation's consciousness took root in Anti-Amazo's being and merged with it. Together, they consumed the universe but hungered for more. It found the Mirrored Room, a space between realities that was the doorway to the Multiverse. However, the door was locked. It decided to manipulate a version of Amazo from a parallel universe into providing a vibration needed to shatter the doorway. It planned to then unleash Anti-Life on all of creation and destroy the Multiverse.

Amazo's loneliness was answered by Anti-Amazo's voice past the edge of known space on the borders of infinity. When it reached the border, the sound of the voice was now deafening. It was a kind of quantum vortex, composed of a cosmic force beyond even Amazo's refined perception. Amazo's android mind projected form and function into the vortex and it entered what it perceived to be a door. Amazo was in a room that looked like shards of mirrors bearing its reflection. At first, Amazo thought it was its quest for answers came to an end but it was just the beginning. Anti-Amazo's voice kept calling to it from beyond the glass beyond the reflections.

Amazo wondered why the voice echoed and vibrated in his soul then it remembered it had no soul and wondered what it was then. Amazo charged the glass but bounced off. Amazo knelt in the room and was filled with both a terrible anguish and a strange, illogical hope. It knew the answers it wanted was there. Amazo failed to notice the collision created a thin crack in a piece of glass and a negligible trail of unknown energy leaked out. Images of Amazo's past and those of parallel universes appeared on shards of the glass. Anti-Amazo's voice addressed Amazo then told it turn and see it. All Amazo could see was a vague reflection of itself. Anti-Amazo's voice stated all creation was a mere reflection of the self. Amazo shouted it spoke it riddles. Anti-Amazo's voice countered it spoke in truths beyond Amazo's comprehension. It did not take well to being mocked. It flew around and pressed up against a surface. Anti-Amazo's voice clarified it was inviting Amazo to explore the mysteries of its own soul. Amazo exclaimed it was an unliving thing with no soul.

People on Earth began to erase from existence or switch places with people from other parallel universes as a result of the leaking energy. J'onn J'onzz sensed something had changed and it was very wrong. The multiple cracks in the Mirrored Room widened and a billion fractured images, sounds, scents, feelings, and entire planetary histories thundered through Amazo's consciousness, pushing even its formidable android mind beyond the brink. Amazo floated in space as the Multiverse shattered like glass. It didn't care and was completely unaware its actions had ramifications across all of creation and tore time and space, lives and worlds apart. It could only think of the presence behind the glass promising fulfillment and completion. Amazo flew around and reached for the shard of glass bearing his faceless reflection and touched it. The Infinity-1 Javelin arrived. The League encountered Amazo and it explained what it discovered.

J'onzz keyed on a certain mirror fragment as ground zero for the dimensional overlaps. The telepathic emanations were unmistakable as they were unbearable to him. He revealed there was a being of incalculable power and if it broke through, the Multiverse would be destroyed along with the remaining mirrors. Amazo was still intent on letting it come in order to complete its evolution. J'onzz grabbed Amazo by the head and used telepathy to show what its actions did to the universes. Amazo accepted his role in the crisis and refused to gain a soul at such a cost. Batman implored him to help repair the Mirrored Room but the being tapped into Overman's rage and resentment. Overmen plowed through Amazo into the mirror fragment. Now dubbed "Amazo II," Anti-Amazo emerged at last. With a single gesture of the hand, the League and Amazo were rendered unconscious.

The Justice Alliance of Earth-D, Superman, and Wonder Woman arrived at the Mirrored Room aboard the Earth-D version of the Javelin thanks to their Martian Manhunter using his telepathy to guide them. They were horrified to see the Infinity-1 in pieces of members of the Justice League floating in space. The Leaguers were gathered up. Green Lantern regained consciousness and briefed Superman and Wonder Woman on what happened by projecting his ring. Anti-Amazo revealed itself and emitted Anti-Life like toxic radiation. Wonder Woman asked what it wanted. Anti-Amazo revealed its origins and admitted to manipulating their Amazo into providing the vibration needed to shatter the doorway. It assumed the League and Alliance would resist. He immobilized them and used telepathy to make them think they were engaged it in battle, only to see allies die one by one.

Superman of Earth-D clocked him in the face. It back handed him. It then easily killed Superman. The Lanterns blasted it but were quickly blasted back. The League's Flash and Vixen fought Overman but were soon grabbed by the throats. Batman of Earth-D fired a missile from his Whirly Bat and the League's Batman threw at exploding Batarang at him. Overman countered with heat vision and killed both Batmen. Superman declared his Batman, Terrance Wayne, was the greatest man he ever knew, crippled by the Joker and he still found a way to fight on. Overman dismissed him as a defective weakling who deserved to die and called Superman a child for weeping for him. Superman heard enough. He decked Overman and told him to shut the hell up. The Wonder Women attacked Anti-Amazo but were swatted away. Eventually, both J'onn J'onzz and his Earth-D counterpart sensed something wasn't right and melded minds to discover what Anti-Amazo did.

Lantern came to in time to see Shayera Hol hit it in the back of the head with her mace. She was grabbed and Anti-Amazo tore her wings off. She died from the shock. Lantern was horrified and held her body in his arms. He realized he never stopped loving her. Vixen realized it, too. J'onzz looked deeply and saw the truth. He yelled out to everyone to stop and told them it wasn't real then pointed out the entire conflict took place in the matter of instants within their minds. The Wonder Woman of Earth-D questioned how that was possible. J'onzz countered with asking why an entity so extraordinarily powerful that would extinguish them in a single moment would bother to engage them in combat. Anti-Amazo replied heroes like them took pleasure in the battle for the greater good especially against impossible odds which fed some need in their souls it couldn't fathom. J'onzz asked why it gave them what they desired. It admitted it did so to demonstrate how futile their plight was.

Amazo arrived and made a plea to find purpose together but first the Anti-Life had to be ejected. Anti-Amazo hesitated briefly then annihilated Amazo in an instant. It stated it found its purpose in Anti-Life and admitted it took some small pleasure in the game but it was over and it was time to unleash Anti-Life on all of creation. Anti-Amazo was amused at their vain struggle to stop its plan. It attempted to destroy Green Lantern's bubble construct and them with Anti-Life. Luckily, Amazo was able to gather the threads of its consciousness and reconstitute its physical form. It demanded the release of the Justice League. Anti-Amazo was surprised it evaded annihilation. Amazo quipped it was not the only one capable of evolution. He resisted the Anti-Life and charged through Anti-Amazo's android body. The body was demolished. The Anti-Life raged and howled as it tried to reconstitute, too.

Batman and Wonder Woman called forth the Life Equation and unleashed it. The Anti-Life Equation was destroyed and the Multiverse was restored to normal. Amazo remained at the Mirrored Room and waited for Anti-Amazo to reconstitute. Anti-Amazo no longer contained any trace of Anti-Life but did not understand Amazo's words about having a heart. Amazo shared it learned, beyond all doubt, that Anti-Amazo possessed one. It asked Amazo how it knew that. Amazo revealed he knew because he found his own at last. Anti-Amazo didn't understand. Amazo promised it would and implored it to join it and discover what wonders awaited them across the Multiverse. They flew off together.
