While the cold and aloof population of Krypton languished, Jor-El and Lara truly loved each other and their son, enough to make the ultimate sacrifice. Jor-El discovered their planet was becoming unstable and could implode at any second. He created the Messanger, a program designed to automatically generate fresh crystals. It was a success and Krypton was saved. However, Brainiac 1.0 soon arrived and stole the city of Kandor and indirectly, the Messanger. Jor-El initiated a back up plan and sent his son Kal-El to Earth in a space pod. Soon after, Krypton imploded and Jor-El died with the remaining Kryptonians.
